Disarray And Disconnected: Barcelona’s fall from grace was inevitable and Lionel Messi sensed it

The Catalunya giants are no longer the force of nature that petrified almost every team they faced. Today, they’re are as strong as a mid-table club who depend totally on their talisman and captain Lionel Messi to remain competitive and hopefully win trophies.

This season have seen the mighty Barcelona hit rock bottom but, the decline started from last season not this season. Last season, no one noticed how weak Barcelona was due to the exceptional display of Lionel Messi who vowed at the start of the season that he will deliver Barcelona the Champions League trophy which he almost did.

But this season, Messi decided he won’t be making promises to anyone and will sit back and watch the season unfolds. That decision was a bad one. Barcelona are on verge of ending the season trophy-less for the first time in 14 years.

Barcelona's LaLiga challenge came to end following a defeat against mid-table Osasuna

And this is because the club have been submerged into internal crises created by those on upper echelon of the club.

The club president Josep Bartameou who created most of the mess starting from his Barca-spy gate scandal, poor recruitment policy {Philippe Coutinho, Ousmane Dembele, Antoine Griezmann, Brainwaite and now exchanging the 24-year-old Arthur Melo for the 31-year-old Miralem Pjanic} and finally, his refusal to accept that Barcelona now needs a radical change like in 2007-08 season when they finished trophy-less.

2007-8 season saw former club president Joan Laporta fire Frank Rijkaard and replace him with Pep Guardiola who instantly transformed the club into the best club in the world {14 trophies in 4 years} while introducing the ‘tiki-taka’ football which is now part of football lexicon.

12 years from that successful era, Barcelona is now managed by Quique Setien who is not be blamed for the club’s failing cause he is working with an average team lead by captain who is not even sure if he wants to leave or stay at the club.

Messi’s rant after Barcelona’s 2-1 defeat to Osasuan completely summed up the season and how disarray and disconnected club is. The team is inconsistent, weak and easily predictable. They won’t win a trophy this season and Messi already knows the inevitable.

This summer, the club must undergo a reciprocal change or turn into the next ‘AC Milan or Manchester United’ as Nicolas Font predicted.
