Six facts that could determine whether Barcelona win the LaLiga title for the 4th consecutive season… Or not

Barcelona have kicked started their season with phenomenal display agaisnt Mallorca. The Bluagrana giants crushed Mallorca 4-0 to move 5 points clear of second placed Real Madrid although, with a game in hand.

The man of the match, Lionel Messi pulled the strings in midfield and created two goals and scored one for himself. But despite his form and fitness, Barcelona can still lose the La Liga title to Real Madrid and this why.

Lionel Messi form and fitness will be key-

If Lionel Messi were to sustain a serious knee or ankle injury, Barcelona’s hopes of winning a fourth consecutive La Liga title will instantly be over.

Why? This season alone, Messi created 103 goal-scoring chances, scored 20 goals for himself with 14 assists in just 28 La Liga matches. Take Messi out of Barcelona right now and you will be amazed how average the team is

Quique Setién tactical decisions-

Messi might be great in deciding games but sometimes, the manager will have to make the right decision at the right time. He has to pick the right first 11, make the right substitutions and find the right word to motivate his players.

Also, he has to bring peace and harmony to the team.. That is one part of the game every manager secretly works really hard to improve in his team. 

The central defenders have to stay fit-

Currently, Barcelona have only two fit defenders in Gerard Pique and Samuel Umtiti. If Blaugrana giants want to really win the La Liga title for the fourth season in a row, they’re centre backs must be fit and motivated.

Antoine Griezmann must contribute more going forward and less going backward-

Griezmann is currently struggling to shake off the defensive mentality he picked up from Atletico Madrid. Rojiblancos coach Diego Simone insists that his attackers track back and help the midfielders and defenders when they’re not win the ball but at Barcelona, attackers are expected to do less of the defending and very much of the attacking.

Most times, Griezmann drifts too deep in midfield and out of attacking positions to score. He has stop that and adjust.

Luis Suarez must rediscover his goal scoring touch quickly-

Covid-19 break have done Barcelona a world of good by giving Suarez lots of time to recover from his broken ankle. The Uruguay international is now back from injury but not still fit enough to play 90 minutes of football. He has to be fit if Barcelona are to win the La Liga title.

Sort out contract situations with players- Some players don’t even know if they will be staying or leaving this summer. The likes of Arturo Vidal, Ivan Rakitic, Nelson Semedo, Samuel Umtiti are all in limbo. The club must speak to them and sort out their contract conundrum.
