Liverpool have won the 2019/20 Premier League title with 7 games to spare. Chelsea’s 2-1 win over Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on Thursday ensured Liverpool ended their 30 year wait to win a league title.
The Reds are champions having won 27 games, drawn twice and lost just once to Watford. But achieving such fate would’ve been possible had it not be for 6 moments that changed everything.
Here are the six moments.
Manchester United vs Liverpool at Old Trafford- The pulsating clash between Manchester United and Liverpool was the turning point of the season. United were so determined to end Liverpool’s 7 consecutive wins and almost did it had not been from Adam Lallana.
Lallana scored in 93rd minute to cancel Marcus Rashford first half goal. The match ended 1-1.
Liverpool vs Sheffield United at Brammal Stadium- Liverpool huffed and puffed but just couldn’t break through Sheffield United tight defense and exceptional goalkeeper Henderson. But in the 63rd minute, Henderson gifted Liverpool the lead having failed to properly tame Gini Wijnaldum’s shoot. The ball flown past his legs and into the net 1-0 was how it ended.
Aston Villa vs Liverpool at Villa Park– Liverpool were trialing Aston Villa 1-0 with just three minutes left to play and a defeat would’ve cut the lead to the top to just three points. City were breathing on Liverpool’s neck and fans kept pushing their players to attack which they did in emphatic style.
Andrew Robertson scored the equaliser before Trent Alexander Arnold found Sadio Mane with a pinpoint cross to score the winner.
Liverpool vs Leicester City at Anfield- The Reds were trialing 1-0 thanks to Ayoze Perez well taken strike. The Reds were on the verge of losing their unbeaten home run since 2017 but, Sadio Mane found the resolve to equalize before diving to win Liverpool a penalty. Controversy maybe, but that win really boasted the confidence of the team.
Liverpool vs Manchester United at Anfield- One moment of magic from Andres Pereira to cancel out Liverpool’s lead meant the Reds hard to work extra hard to win which they did in style. Alisson Becker long pass found Mohamed Salah who had aches of space to maraud towards goal and score. His goal will forever live in the folklore of Liverpool.
Wolves vs Liverpool at Molineux stadium- Raul Jimenez and Adama Traore terrorized Liverpool all through out the night and deservedly scored. 2-2 was the scoreline with 4 minutes to go. Liverpool were close to drawing to throwing 3 point away but one ferocious striker from Roberto Firmino with just 3 minutes ended the tie.
