Arsenal Vs Liverpool: The Strength And Weakness Of Both Teams

The reigning Premier league champions Liverpool will play the FA Cup champions Arsenal in the traditional curtain raiser ‘Community Shield’ to kickoff the new season. Both teams will line up their strongest sides and try as much as possible to outwit the opposition.

Mikel Arteta posses much more experience in the competition having reached the final of the Community Shield twice and won it back to back as the assistant manager to Pep Guardila at Manchester City.

He was the mastermind in beating Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool’s team in last season curtain raiser and as the manager of Arsenal Football Club, he repeated the same trick by beating Liverpool 2-1 at the Emirates to end the Gunners 5 year wait to win.

Arsenal will play with a renewed vigour and determination having won their fourteen trophy under a manager who truly understands the physic of his players. Under Mikel Arteta’s tutelage, Arsenal have vastly improved in tactical setup, transitional play and game management.

The Gunners main strength lies in their attack. The likes of Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, Nicolas Pepe, Alexander Lacazette and Willian have the pace, power and dribbling skills to rattle any defense. Van Dijk can testify how difficult it was stopping them.

He was rattled by their sheer power and pace and even gave away a goal.

In midfield, Arsenal are average and not so strong to match the intensity and rhythm of Liverpool’s battle hard midfielders. Grant Xhaka remains the only experienced player in that ranks along with Fenanbache bound Mesut Ozil who likely not play for the Gunners again.

Arsenal major weakness lies in their defense but with the signing of William Saliba, the Gunners will be hopeful of stopping Liverpool’s rampaging attackers.

Liverpool meanwhile have the best attacking front three in the country. Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino are world class attackers who create and score goals for themselves.

In midfield, Liverpool have arguably the best midfielders in the Premier League and will close down any channel Arsenal try to penetrate. Sadly, Jordan Henderson and Oxlade Chamberlian will miss the clash but with the likes of Gini Wijnaldum, Fabinho, James Milner, Curtis Jones and the fast improving Naby Keita, Arsenal’s will be overwhelmed by the tireless running and pressing.

Defensively, Liverpool are superior but they currently have just two fit defenders in Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez. Joel Matip is still injured while Dejan Lovren has joined Zenith Saint Peterborough. If Liverpool suffers any injury at the centre back, the whole season will thrown off season.

Arsenal strength lies in their attack while defensively, they’re weak while Liverpool have an excellent attack, midfield and defense. But if one of Reds centre defenders get injured, Liverpool’s season will be thrown off balance.
