Is Thiago Alcantara coming to Liverpool or not? A question must Kop fans have struggled to give a definitive answer to. The midfielder is currently linked to Liverpool and Manchester United who have both meet the players’ representative and discussed.
An agreement is believed to have been reached between Liverpool and Thiago but none with his parent club. The Reds are yet to approach Bayern Munich neither have they submitted a bid for the player which has annoyed former Bayern Munich president Uli Hoenes.
The former president is upset that the English clubs are trying to blackmail Bayern Munich by waiting until the last week of the transfer window before submitting a late bid. By doing this, Liverpool or Manchester United will pay less than the £35m Bayern Munich is currently requesting for their 29-year-old Spanish International.
Bayern will have less time to negotiate a reasonable fee and will be forced to sell Thiago for cheap having agreed to let him leave after 8 years of service.
According to the Telegraph, Liverpool have just £50m on their confines to make transfers this season and will need to sell before buying. Already, the club have used £11m to sign a left back in Kostas Tsimikas and will need addition funds to sign a centre back to replace Dejan Lovren and a winger to provide competition for both Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.
Therefore, playing the waiting game to sign Thiago Alcantara seems to be the best option for now.
But, it could also backfire cause Bayern Munich could decide otherwise not to sell anymore to Liverpool but to China in the next transfer window.
