Liverpool have reached an agreement to sign Bayern Munich superstar midfielder Thiago Alcantara. The 29-year-old have been linked to Liverpool since July after he decided against renew his contract with the Bavarian giants and trying something new.
The Reds sporting director Micheal Edwards was reportedly contacted by Bayern’s Sports director Hasan Salihamidzic to inform him the transfer negotiations will be halted if it exceeds this weekend which prompted the Reds to submit a £25m bid for the highly rated midfielder.
According to the Times, £20m will be paid upfront while the remaining 5 million will rest on performance add-ons. Thiago’s signing has nothing to do with Gini Wijnaldum’s future he is held in high esteem by Jurgen Klopp who wants him to stay beyond the season.
Micheal Edwards rather the Jurgen Klopp is the brain behind signing Thiago. He felt Liverpool had lots of industrious midfielders but none of them posses the creativity to unlock tight defenses or dictate the tempo of the game therefore, it was imperative to sign one.
Thiago along with Trent Alexander and Andrew Robertson will give Liverpool different options to break down defences.
Additionally, Thiago signing is a statement of intent that Liverpool aren’t going to sit back and watch their main competitors strengthen. They will get better and much more stronger to beat.
