Gini Wijnaldum has reportedly rejected a contract extension to remain at Liverpool reports Football Insider. The 28-year-old is not too convinced with his role at Liverpool after the summer blockbuster signing of Bayern Munich superstar Thiago Alcantara.
Thiago is a far better player than Gini WIjnaldum and his range of passing coupled with his vision and technical skills put him ahead of Wijnaldum in the picking order.
Wijnaldum is aware that signing a contract extension means he has accepted playing second fiddle to Thiago and his chances to sign for Barcelona who currently want him now is all but gone. Therefore, he has rejected Liverpool’s contract.
According to the Football Insider, Liverpool’s error prone goalkeeper Loris Karius will be leaving Anfield to join Union Berlin on a season loan deal.
Karius time at Liverpool is all but over after his calamitous display in the Champions League final back in 2018 which saw him make two high profile mistakes. He set to have a medical at Union Medical today prior t a move.
Football Insider further reports that Liverpool have reached personal terms to sign Brighton’s highly rated defender Lewis Dunk. The 28-year-old defender is a fan of Jurgen Klopp and he is relishing the opportunity to join Liverpool.
The defender though is cheaper alternative to Kalidou Koulibaly who will cost the Reds 64m in signing compared to Dunk who will cost Liverpool just $35m. Talks are still ongoing and there’s a huge possibility he will join Liverpool.
