Liverpool FC have confirmed that Virgil van DijK has sustained an Anterior Cruciate ligament and will miss the rest of the season. The defender will undergo surgeon on his knee which could rule him out for 7 to 8 months.
Van Dijk suffered the damage after Jordan Pickford horrendously launched on his knee in an attempt to clear the ball. The impact was so severe it left the 6 ft 4 defender gasping for air and in dear need of medical assistance.
With Van Dijk now ruled out for the rest of the season, Liverpool’s chances of retaining the Premier League title have been severe dented. Sadly, Van DIjk isn’t the only world class player out for the long term, Alisson Becker will also means months of actions with a shoulder injury.
No doubt, the mounting injuries to Liverpool’s vital players will give Jurgen Klopp lots of headaches but, he can still depend on fast and clever Joe Gomez and injury prone Joel Matip for the leadership at the back. Although, he can still call upon Fabinho to play at the back.
