The injury list is pilling up and Liverpool are beginning to feel the impact of the congested fixture list. Already, the club are without their most dependable defender Virgil van Dijk who suffered a cruciate ligament damage against Everton in the Merseyside derby.
Van Dijk will miss the rest of the season which is a big problem for Liverpool knowing that he is the best and most reliable defender in the team.
HIs defensive partners Joel Matip is inconsistent and prone to long term injuries while the likes of Joe Gomez and Fabinho usually breakdown under intense pressure.
Gomez is now ruled out for a month with a knee injury while Fabinhpo is out with a thigh injury but, he is expected to be back after the international break.
As it stands now, Liverpool have only one top defender in their rank. Sadly, the Cameroonian is injury prone and hardly fit.
Joel Matip will likely break down in the next 3 or 4 matches and Liverpool have to be ready for that. They’ve to get Fabinho back in shape and hope the other two defenders- Nat Philips and Rhys Williams- are fit and motivated to play.
Without doubt, Liverpool must now make two vital decisions to save what is left of their season.
Either they sign a top defender who can provide them the platform to win a trophy or, stick with the current deplorable squad and end the season trophy less.
