Portugal have exited the Nations League after losing 1-0 to France in Lisbon. It was evenly contested matches with both side creating goal scoring chances but unable to finish off.
Fernando Santos game was evident for all to see. Soak the pressure, hit France on the counter and score. The pragmatic approach meant France had more of the possession and created three good chances for Anthony Martial to score which he failed to go.
Cristiano Ronaldo meanwhile huffed and puffed at France but just couldn’t add to his 102 international goal. His misses were strange and it will further aim his critics who watched him maul and growl in agony.
The deciding moment came from a moment of madness from Rui Patricio who gracefully saved Rabiot’s fierce shoot but sadly, parried it to an unmarked N’Golo Kante who delightfully poked it in.
Kante’s match winning goal is a massive blow on Portugal who are now the first Nations League defining champions to exit the competition. Although, this is the second time the competition is taking place.
France meanwhile go the final and will be hoping for Kylian Mbappe to recover in time for the final.
