Manchester City are still optimistic of signing Lionel Messi this January from cash strapped Barcelona.
City are fully aware that Messi is unhappy at Barcelona and will leave the club if he receives a good offer from a big club who have a realistic chance of winning domestic trophies and the Champions League.
The club is also aware that Messi has a £635m release clause on his existing contract and Barcelona will do everything possible to keep the player.
But, the club needs money urgently and a £50m offer for a 33-year-old Lionel Messi who has just 6 months left to run on his exiting contract will certainly tempt Barca to sell.
According to the Sun, Barcelona need £173m to balance their books and avoid bankruptcy. The club are currently thinking of ways to further slash the players wages and sell off some of its major merchandize to big cooperation.
Manchester City’s £50m offer will certainly be looked into by the new club president and his board.
