Liverpool could be signing one of the finest defender in the Bundesliga this January. The Reds are reportedly interested in signing RB Liepzig defender Dayot Upamecano who will cost Liverpool just £70m this January but far less in the summer.
Upamecano reportedly has a £38m release clause which can only be activated in the summer. Liverpool though are need of defensive reinforcement having watched two of their most relievable defenders suffer long term injuries while the third just can’t stay fit.
According to the Sun, Jurgen Klopp is a huge fan of Dayot Upamenaco but, he also wants Kalidu Koulibaly who has proven over the years he is a top, top defender.
The Napoli captain is top athletic with lots of power and physicality. Klopp feels he can instantly replace Van Dijk and provide his team with the platform to win the Champions League and the Premier League.
Although, signing Koulibaly is not cheap, the 30-year-old will cost Liverpool or any team interested in his service £65m to sign.
Spanish paper Marca meanwhile reports that Liverpool could replace Gini Wijnaldum with Barcelona’s super talented midfielder Frenkie De Jong.
Wijnaldum will become a free agent this summer after he rejected Liverpool’s extension. The 29-year-old feels his contract should be reviewed from £70,000-a-week to £130,000 or £140,000-a-week cause, he feels deserves it.
Liverpool’s refusal to offer him an improved contract means Wijnaldum will leave the club and join another team that can pay him well for his effort and immerse contribution.
