2012 was the last time Manchester United hoisted aloft the Premier League title. It was the last time United fans were buzzing going to the stadium to watch their team take on opposition teams and crush them to dust.
Predicting a win was easy. Sir Alex Ferguson was in control of the club and his world class coaching skills was far too superior for others to comprehend but that was the glorious days, this is the present.
Manchester United haven’t won the Premier League title in the last 9 years and last season, they finished 4th in the Premier League table, 32 points from first time winners- Liverpool.
This season though is looking different, Manchester are level on points with Liverpool and will go top if they beat Burnley next.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is getting the best out of the present day Manchester United and many fans and pundits believe the team will pip Liverpool to it.
Sir Alex Ferguson meanwhile don’t think it will be that easy.
Liverpool might have lost their most reliable defenders in Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez but that dosen’t mean they’re out of the race. If they sign one or two top defenders this summer, the Reds will instantly be the best team in Europe.
Ferguson don’t want be carried away with the present vibe of the team, he wants to see how long they can sustian it and how they will overcome it under pressure. Winning games breads confidence but what happens when the team lose a game or two.
Will they recover or will they collapse like they always do?
Asked if United will win the Premier League title Fergusons aid: ‘It’s not an easy road to get back into challenging for the league,’ he says.
‘It’s a difficult league these days.’ United are playing well but that dosen’t mean they are title contenders.
