Luka Jovic: Why Real Madrid’s 7th Most Expensive Player Failed

Its over! Real Madrid’s $60m striker Luka Jovic will return to the Eintracht Frankfurt after failing to live up to expectation at Estadio Saintiago Bernebeu.

Jovic was once Europe’s most wanted player due to his unbelievable scoring feat. Top clubs like Liverpool, Tottenham and PSG all queued up for his signature but, the attacker felt Real Madrid was the perfect club for him.

He felt he possessed the pace, intelligent positioning and clinical finishing to bench Karim Benzema. That confidence in his ability propelled Real Madrid to part with $60m for his service.

Judging on his previous goal scoring records, paying $60m was a bargain but, fate has its own strange way of working.

18 months later, Jovic have managed just 2 goals with 2 assists in 32 games. He is currently a peripheral figure at Real Madrid while Karim Benzema is still the man Zinedine Zidane looks up to win games and trophies for Real Madrid.

Luka Jovic failure can be attributed to his inability to stay fit and play regular football. He is mostly injured and hardly fit. Jovic has lost that spark in his belly that once made him the feared attacker in Bundesliga.

Secondly, his off field antics haven’t helped issues. He skipped quarantine at the beginning at the Covid-19 pandemic and later was infected with the coronavirus. Jovic was even threatened with Imprisonment by the Serbian government but luckily escaped unpunished.

Sadly the promising attacker will return to Eintrant Frankfurt on a six months loan with an option to remain permanent.
