Liverpool are reportedly closing in on signing Lille’s highly rated defender Sven Botman. The Reds will sign the defender on a season loan deal but with an obligation to sign him at the end of the season.
A fee believed to be $20m will be all that is needed to sign the 21-year-old Dutch international who is fast developing into a top defender.
Botman is revered for his aerial prowess, good reading of the game, accurate short passes and strong tackling.
But, no one should expect him finding Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mane with a 60 or 70 yard pass like Van Dijk does or, expect him to clear every dangerous ball on the air or ground with power and precision.
Expecting him to instantly replace Van Dijk is a waste of time, he can’t and won’t even waste his time trying to be Van Dijk.
Sven Botman will hopefully be arriving on Sunday or in the closing hours of the transfer window on Monday.
