Clear The Deadwoods: Its Time Liverpool Got Rid Of Firmino, Keita and 5 More First Team Players

Liverpool’s fall from grace to grass was highly predictable and yet avoidable. Their inability to strengthen their depleted squad in the summer and in the January transfer window meant that the gap between then and others was significantly closed.

Liverpool must now rebuild the team by selling off deadwoods and replacing them with talented players.

First player Liverpool must try to sell off is Roberto Firmino. The 29-year-old has outlived his usefulness and now struggles to score goals. Yes! he is a good striker but, he lacks the killer instinct Liverpool needs to compete for various trophies and win them.

He is nothing like Sergio Aguero, Roberto Lewandowski or Luis Suarez who know when to raise their respective games and score vital goals needed to win trophies.

Liverpool also have to sell Naby Keita who has spent more time on the treatment room than the pitch. The 28-year-old has failed to live up to the billing since joining Liverpool in a $52m deal from RB Leipzig.

Other injury prone players who should follow Keita out of Anfield Joel Matip {who have managed just 21 appearances in 2 seasons} and Oxlade Chamberlian {whose best days are far gone}.

In fact, the only reason Chamberlian is fit is because he is not playing football.

Another deadwood Liverpool must get rid off is Divock Origi. The 28-year-old has struggled for consistency and form for the past two season.

Origi is a good player but his mental fortitude is questionable. The attacker is sadly more contended with sitting on the bench for Roberto Firmino unlike Diojo Jota.

Origi is in fact the only Liverpool striker who will gladly sit on the bench for the rest of the season and still sign a contract extension if one is offered to him the following season. Call it laziness and you won’t be wrong..

Liverpool should also get rid off the likes of Harry Wilson, Marko Grujic, Loris Karius, Sheyi Ojo and Adrian.
