Real Madrid

Should Real Madrid Resign Cristiano Ronaldo?

They say, bringing back a former legend who has won it all and done it all is never a good idea. Most times, its advisable to live legends in the past and focus on younger vibrant players who are in their prime or players who have something to prove.

Ronaldo is Real Madrid’s greatest player having scored 451 goals in 438 competitive appearances. With Los Blancos, he scored 312 La Liga; 105 goals in the Champions League, 22 in the Copa del Rey, 6 in the Club World Cup, four in the Spanish Super Cup and 2 in the UEFA Super Cup.

When it comes to goals, Ronaldo is Madrid’s greatest goal scorer and that goal scoring attributes haven’t left him. With Juventus, he has scored 93 goals in 129 games and lifted 3 trophies.

Madrid need a player like Ronaldo who knows how to find the back of the net consistently but, he is 35-years-old and has lost the bustling energy and vibe that characterized his game in the past.

Right now, Ronaldo will not counter press, neither will he drift in and out of midfield to draw the defender out of position or, orchestrate the flow of the game like most modern strikers do. He will stay upfront waiting for the ball to be played to him.

When Ronaldo attacks he is a joy to watch but when it comes to defending, he is a massive minus to the team. Probably, the reason why Juventus have been knocked out of the Champions League in 3 consecutive seasons.

But, Madrid still need him on the commercial level {Ronaldo is a money making machine} and on the pitch {Ronaldo can still score 30 to 40 goals a season}.
