Liverpool can bow out of the Champions League with their heads high after delivering a performances worthy of champions.
They kept Madrid at bay and restricted them one on three chances on goal. But thankfully, Alisson Becker was in goal to stop Vinicius Jr, Karim Benzema and Asensio from adding their Champions league goal tally. The goalkeeper was terrific to watch but the man of the match will certainly go to Gini Wijnaldum.
The Dutch midfield maestro was exceptionally good tonight. His overall display was world class and his turning was brilliant. It took Toni Kroos out of the game over and over again.
Liverpool must offer Gini a new contract, that guy is a world class player.
Apart from Gini, Trent Alexander Arnold was superb, he marauding run, coupled with his fantastic delivery was just top notch. Andrew Robertson was also superb, so was Fabinho, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.
Accolades must be given to Nat Philips, he was the Reds backbone and his interceptions were world class. Frankly, i don’t any reason why Liverpool have to spend millions signing defenders this summer. Nat Philips and Ozan Kabak are fast turning into reliable defenders.
They will be top defenders in no distant futures.
Sadly this season will end trophy-less but Liverpool can’t be disappointed, the boys delivered when nothing was expected of them and against Real Madrid they showed they’re still a team capable of winning the Champions League.
