This summer, Liverpool will put more on emphasis on rebuilding their depleted defense by signing at least two top defenders.
The Reds have already stepped up that initiative by reaching agreement to sign RB Liepzig’s highly rated defender Ibrahima Konate. They are also holding talks with Lille’s Sven Botman and Real Madrid’s superstar Raphael Varane.
But as they bring in new players, the club will have to sell off dead woods or, loan out promising defenders.
The club is open to selling off Joel Matip this summer. The injury prone defender has managed just 17 appearances in two season. Matip is so fragile that Jurgen Klopp a times worries after two games that he might have picked up an injury and the Cameroonian always disappoints.
This season, he was massively needed to deputize in the absence of Van Dijk and Joe Gomez but sadly, Matip’s fragility meant Klopp had to give up on him and allow him to permanently breakdown.
Liverpool will not trigger Ozan Kabak’s buy out clause. The defender has the potential of becoming a top defender, but such a fate won’t be achieved staying at Liverpool’s bench. He needs to go to another club and play more football.
Ryan WIlliams won’t be sold but he will be allowed to leave on loan to gain the much needed experiences.
