Thomas Tuchel is confident of beating Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League semi final having discovered 3 weaknesses his team must exploit.
The German knows that at this stage of the competition, it is the midfield that decides the outcome of the game. Madrid have the best midfield trio in history ‘Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and Casemiro’ and their three consecutive Champions League trophies proves that fact.
Beating them is hard but Tuchel knows what he must do:
Take Toni Kroos out of the game like Gini Wijnaldum did and you have big chance in beating Madrid- Toni Kroos is now Real Madrid’s lynchpin not Luka Modric. Thomas Tuchel must have watched Gini Wijnaldum’s incredible display against Real Madrid at Anfield and watched as he spin Kroos over and over again until Zinedine Zidane had to save him the embarrassment and take him off for Rodrygo.
Had Liverpool taken 6 of their goal bound chances in the second leg of the quarter final at Anfield, Real Madrid would’ve been out.
No doubt, N’Golo Kante is capable of doing what Wijandlum did, he has to take the German out of the game by making it uncomfortable for him.
Kroos is Madrid’s strength but he is also their weakness. Isolate him and you have a big chance of beating Real Madrid.
Stop Vinicius Jr from marauding up and down the right flank- The Brazilian is most likely to score if given a chance on goal. He will put that ball in the back of the net if Chelsea make one mistake. Whoever Tuchel decides to play at right back must be ready to run cause Vinicius main strength is his explosive pace.
Goals are important, Timo Werner can’t be wasteful- Chelsea’s back line is absolutely brilliant but upfront the is average.
The likes of Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, Tammy Abraham, Hakim Ziyech, Christian Pulisic or whoever gets to start must score when a chance is presented to them. That can’t have cold feed like Liverpool and accept to be knocked by an injury plagued team.
And off course, Eden Hazard should be an extra motivation to knock Real Madrid out.
