After 27-year marriage, Bill Gates, the Microsoft co-founder turned philanthropist, has announced his divorce from his wife, Melinda.
On Monday, one of the world’s richest families, with a combined net worth of $130 billion, made an announcement on Twitter.
Despite their split, the pair stated that they will continue to work together on the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which supports global health, gender equality, education, and other causes.
“After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage.
“Over the last 27 years, we have raised three incredible children and built a foundation that works all over the world to enable all people to lead healthy, productive lives.
“We continue our work together at the foundation, but we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in this phase of our lives,” a joint statement tweeted by Bill Gates read.
