Liverpool are on the verge of signing Philippe Coutinho on a season loan deal. The 28-year-old has struggled with form and fitness since departing Anfield for Camp Nou in a £145m deal.
Coutinho was expected to replace Andres Iniesta and his first season showed signs of him doing that but, his eagerness to drift forward and create one or two moments of magic before shooting from distance meant he was completely going against the club’s principle which was to pass, press and give to Lionel Messi to do the rest.
That inability to acclimatize to the club’s style of playing meant Barcelona had to get rid off him quickly. Thankfully, a deal to bring him back to Anfield is currently been discussed.
Coutinho’s arrival will be massive uplift to the fans who have watched Gini Wijnaldum leave for free this summer.
