Barcelona will trimming the squad this summer as they seek to reduce the club’s current wage bill and save more to readdress the club’s crippling debt as well as tie down Lionel Messi to another lucrative deal.
The club captain wants to stay at Camp Nou but, he needs to see a substantial offer on the table before putting pen to paper. And for that to happen, Barcelona have to sell off some of their average players and high earners to make that possible.
Players like Philippe Coutinho have to go along with Miralem Pjanic, Martin Braithwaite, Samuel Umtiti, Junior Firpo, Matheus Fernandes and even Ousame Dembele.
Concerning Dembele, his transfer plans is much more complicated than others.
The attacker wants to leave this summer or, run down his contract if Barcelona don’t find a club ready to offer them what they want for him. Added to that, he is injured which means most of Europe’s super clubs won’t fork out outrageous sums of money for him nor will they take him on loan with the obligation of paying later.
Barcelona will likely be losing the 24-year-old next season for nothing and that will certainly be bad business.
