Lionel Messi

Why Copa America will decide If Lionel Messi returns to Barcelona or not

Sunday is the big day for Lionel Messi, the day he will etch his name in the nation’s folklore and be regarded as the greatest player in Argentina’s history.

Wining the Copa America is a must for Messi who have suffered years of accusation of loving Barcelona more than Argentina. They accuse of him turning into a super human player when he wears the Bluagrana jersey and then a cat when he dons the nation’s light blue and white strips.

Messi though have bruised aside those asserssaton from his country men and concentrated on playing his football. But on Sunday against Brazil that tension and expectations will weigh heavily on the captain’s shoulder.

He will be expected to lead Argentina to the Copa America title against their biggest rival Brazil and put in a man of the match performance.

If Messi lose the Copa America title, his time with the national team is all but over. He will have no option that to leave them to revamp the squad without him.

Sadly, he will be remembered as a massive failure whose best days were just with Barcelona. He will then be underrated when compared to Pele {three times World Cup winner}, the late Diego Maradona {World Cup winner} and even Cristiano Ronaldo who made history by becoming the first Portuguese captain to win the European Championship and then the Nations League.

Defeat to Brazil will force Messi to reevaluate his career decisions.

He will need time to process the humiliating defeat before deciding if returning to an averagely assembled Barcelona team and playing the hero once again will be good for psychic or not.
