Jorginho has dismissed the calls from some fans to award the Ballon d’Or to Lionel Messi after the 34-year-old lead Argentina to the Copa America. The Brazil born attacker believes he should be the one in the running not Messi after wining two of Europe’s biggest trophies.
He won the Champions League with Chelsea and weeks later won the European Championship with Italy.
Asked if he feels he should be winning the Ballon d’Or, Jorginho replied: “We all have dreams. But i’ll be honest, it depends on the criteria that the decision is based on”, he told SporTV.
“If we’re talking about talent than i know I’m not the best in the world. But if it’s going on titles, then nobody has won more than i have this season.
“How could i compare myself to Lionel Messi, Neymar or Cristiano Ronaldo? They’ve got completely different characteristics to me. But, i repeat, it depend on the criteria”.
Jorginho is right, the criteria to win the Ballon d’Or is centered on a player’s popularity, journalist votes, titles won and off course, the club the player plays for.
