Barcelona have reportedly struck a deal with Atletico Madrid to swap Antoine Griezmann with Saul Niguez. The Bluagrana giants are optimistic of reducing their wage bill and feel Griezmann’s departure will help the club save cost.
His departure could also help Barcelona sign Saul to strengthen their midfield. The 26-year-old possess a vast array of qualities in both offensive and defensive positions. He will certainly provide Barcelona more depth in midfield.
Although, the deal will only go through if Griezmann and Saul accept certain terms.
Griezmann will have to accept a massive cut on his $220,000-a-week wages while Saul will have to accept a peripheral role at Camp Nou.
Saul will not be a first team football knowing that Ronald Koeman will always pick Pedri, Frenkie De Jong and Sergio Busquet ahead of him. He will be one of those bench warmers hoping to get 20 or 30 minutes of football or, he will be used for cup games and dead rubber Champions League matches.
