Lionel Messi

3 reasons why Lionel Messi won’t win the Ballon d’Or

After a triumphant victory against Brazil in the Copa America final, Lionel Mesis is now the bookies favourite to win a record 7th Ballon d’Or.

But, awarding him the trophy won’t make sense cause they’re other players who frankly did better than him last season and deserve to win the individual accolade ahead of him.

Messi fans will certainly say no to this but they’re substantial reasons why Messi shouldn’t win the ‘once prestigious’ Ballon d’Or.

Cristiano Ronaldo accomplished more than Messi- Hard to believe right! but Cristiano Ronaldo accomplished more than Messi with both club and country. Ronaldo lifted two trophies with Juventus, became Euros highest goal scorer and then tied Iranian legend Ali Daei record as the highest international goal scorer with 109 goals.

Added to that, Ronaldo at the age of 35 won the just concluded European golden boot. To be honest, Ronaldo deserve to win the trophy not Messi.

Remember, Ronaldo won the 2013 Ballon d’Or without winning a single trophy with Real Madrid after scoring a sensational hat trick against Sweden in the European qualification. Whereas, Franck Ribery won the treble with Bayern Munich and still lost it.

I don’t see any reason why that shouldn’t happen now with Messi, if the Ballon d’Or is honest.

Jorginho won two of Europe’s biggest prizes and reached a cup final- Since the Ballon d’Or is a European trophy given to player’s who achieved great things last season and Jorginho did just that.

The midfield maestro won the Champions League with Chelsea and the pulled the strings in midfield as Italy won the European Championship. Don’t forget, Jorginho also reached the FA Cup final with Chelsea.

No disrespect to Messi or Barcelona, the Copa Del Rey is far inferior to the Champions League and that should never be used to compare Jorginho’s Champions League success.

Messi don’t even have a club– Technically speaking, Lionel Messi is currently unemployed and the odds of Barcelona resigning him are very slim. The Bluagrana giants are struggling to sell off top players or even sign those they signed.

Club’s stature matters in Ballon d’Or consideration and Messi don’t have one at the moment.
