Step up or step down: Has Jadon Sancho made a mistake by going to Manchester United?

July 1st 2021 will forever be remembered as the day Manchester United finally signed Jadon Sancho from Borrusia Dortmund.

A player destined to replicate the heroics of Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United and hopefully surpass the Portuguese captain in the next three or four years.

Sancho is without doubt a technically gifted player who possess the skillsets and mentality to rival the best wing forwards/strikers in Europe. His ability is well documented around Europe especially the Bundesliga who have been entertained with watching his incredible foot works, assists and goals..

But, replicating that form at Old Trafford will be incredibly difficult knowing that Manchester United isn’t the same club that lifted 34 trophies in 25 years under a legendary scot. Neither is the same club that enjoyed a very successful one year spell {2015-2016} under the ‘Special One’.

Today’s Manchester United is lost in the void and basically living on past glory.

Sancho’s decision to join them now frankly looks naïve knowing that Dortmund not only win him trophies but gives him the recognition around Europe and even in England.

Picking Manchester United ahead of suitors is a serious gamble that might succeed on backfire.

Succeeding in football context means winning a domestic trophy with Manchester United while going as far as possible in the Champions league, Europa League and the other one.

The opposite of success is becoming the next Memphis Depay, Di Maria, Bebe, Diego Forlan and even Anthony Martial. Players who arrived Manchester United with huge expectation only to break down on the sheer wealth of pressure.

Sancho knows the jury will out on him next season and he must deliver or labelled a ‘bloody waste of money’ or ‘another overhyped Englishman’ who best traits are shitty step overs.
