Pep Guardiola has given an empirical explanation of how his team were able to outclass Chelsea at Stamford Bridge despite losing 3 consecutives times to them in 3 different competitions.
Manchester City played their soaks off to win but also ensured that Chelsea’s usually tactics of sitting deep, soaking up the pressure before counterattacking them don’t work by using Jack Grealish and Gabriel Jesus to break the lines.
Jack Grealish was City’s main potent attack as he wavered in and out of helpless Cesar Apzilicueta. N’Golo Kante was forced to double up on Grealish and forfeit his midfield duty. And so did Mateo Kovacic on Gabriel Jesus.
The midfield was then left for Jorginho to dictate alone which was basically impossible in the presence of Kevin de Bruyne, Rodri, Bernando Jesus and Foden.
That alone exposed Chelsea and left for death as City attacked incessantly before Gabriel Jesus scored the opener and later the winner.
City did have chances to make it 3-0 but, a 1-0 score line is enough to guarantee all three points.
